Quentin Tarantino: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Paperback, 2021.

Weidenfeld & Nicolson

Newly published this month is the first novel by Quentin Tarantino. As aficionados of the great Hollywood bad boy director will know, Tarantino always intended to write novels after he finished making films, but few of us would have expected him to begin his fledgling career as a novelist with a quasi-tie-in novel based on his most recent movie (of the same name). And yet the book itself is a hilarious romp through late-sixties Hollywood and is everything one would expect from Tarantino, from slick, ironic dialogue, to deadpan gags, to grizzly slash-fests.

The director has always been open about the fact that he wanted to create movies with the eye-for-detail of a novelist, so it is wonderful to find that he approaches his first novel with the cinematic approach of a master filmmaker. This one is not just for the fans.
